Fishing Reports
Hi,
Its me again I can`t believe my last report passed scrutiny.Well Spring is finally here and I can`t understand why some people think Winter is the best time of the year. You have got to be kidding!!!The coldest winter in 60 years.Bring on summer I say.
The weather has been kinder the last 4 days making offshore fishing possible with small yellowfin and albacore to 10 Kgs being trolled up.in encouraging numbers(4-5 per boat av.) on the shelf.
Reports have been few and far between snapper wise ( only weather related) but I know Joe Brown and crew got their quota of plate size reds down south of Norah Head in office hours.A Swansea R.S.L. member again caught his dozen plus reds in close sprinkled with trevally and the odd bream. He said he`s been doing it all year and can't why no-one else is out there.(down Catho way apparently) He recons the formula is simple, fish the early morning, late afternoon and use plenty of burley but somehow I think there is more too it than that.
Salmon are still being taken on the beach and that's about it.The rocks are still producing salmon with the occasional trevally. The pigs have finally shown up but I think the main reason for their scarcity is that conditions have not been conducive to fish for them.
On Monday afternoon Jason counted 14 boats in Salts Bay but only a few were having success.I think a dozen or so boats roaring around even puts salmon off the chew either that or varying lure size and colour may prove the difference. They don't always eat pilchards or their look alike.Examining a fishes stomach contents is the best way to find out what to present for success but this may be difficult if you can't catch them.
There are still plenty of blackfish in the channel at the usual places.Bream are scarce but whiting are starting to show in numbers on the sand flats.
Stan the tailor man has been out twice in the last few days for 7 and 16 fish to 1.2Kgs.He is blaming his apparent lack of success on too much sunlight and not enough wind. You can't please everyone with "good weather".
The lake is still slow with flathead on plastics between Pulbar Island and Myuna Bay so if you know any lumps and bumps in the area it's worth a try on the edges around them. The bait boys/girls down Mannering Park and Vales Point way are still getting bream at night in the warmer water. Some people will do anything for a fish.
On a lighter note Jerry Parsons 75 Years young ventured down the southern end of the lake on Friday morning chasing flathead on plastics. He only caught 1 flathead but he did weigh in a 6.44Kg Jew which took him 20 minutes to land. What I can not figure out is that if he caught the fish at Gwandalan why was it still alive when I weighed it,no live well a complete mystery.
Sometimes the information I give you is not correct but that is not necessarily my fault as you can never trust a good fisherperson. All we need now is warmer water and the cycle will commence again
Regards,
John..
